Split/Second and Blur – Games killed studios.
It’s funny how much it looks like Black Rock Studio (developers of Split/Second) and Bizarre Creations (developers Blur). And both studios were the daughters of giants: Disney and Activision, respectively.
Both studiodi initially specialized in racing games. Black Rock Studio you can know by the MotoGP series and by extreme pure. And Bizarre in the series Project Gotham Racing (predecessor Forza, also exclusive xbox). What is more funny, the natives of Bizarre last year made an exclusive for PS5 – Destruption Allstars
And May 2010 both studios release their games, and both were met well. And games came out with a difference of a week. But with sales did not ask both
Split/Second and Blur are not direct competitors.
The first is an unrestrained action where everything is spinning around a fictional television show and a city completely built for it, where you can, for example, drop the dispatch tower, destroy the dam or blow up all the way to fall into the parking lot and significantly change the route. Yes, all destruction are crept, but for the television show it is more than normal
Physics is close to the sliding from NFS (starting with HP 2010). Or Burnout Paradise. And for that time it was even a novelty. The difference between machines is very noticeable. And besides, there are no licensed cars in the game, so the creators were able to make some kind of but decent destructiveness of machines.
The graphics are pleasant and at the moment to be wrinkled more than worthy, although it is not only realistic. But the performance of the game is gorgeous and it will work well on any relatively modern bucket.
(although the Color Teal Orange, apparently borrowed from Bey, as simply amazing sparks)
The music in the game is epic, orchestral, but not memorable from the word at all. (although this was probably not required from her)
Blur is more likely Mario Kart with an emphasis in stable driving. Where you can pick up all sorts of different bonuses, such as a rocket, jacket, etc. Some of which are clearly borrowed from all the same Mario cards (yes min, I point to you).
All routes are static, there are not even a cut, but they pass in real cities, and are perfectly detailed. All cars are licensed and there are actually destruction, but they are purely nominal. The maximum will be cracked glass and the falling off the rear bumper (although not if you have too few HPs, then you will be smoked). And if your car is “destroyed”, then it will simply disappear, not fall apart or anything else, it will simply twist it and it dissolves in the air.
The flower corn here with emphasis in cold blue (and a little in purple). And the music is calm electronic.
Both games would not shine in a variety of modes. Classic races, time trial and still a couple of others. But not blur, they do not have a bells out, because they pass easily in 3-4 pm. If you believe the Cubiq site, then the passage is Blur, that Split/Second will need 9.5 hours (well, then or 11 hours of calm gameplay) both races are not difficult, and it will not be difficult to pass them.
I like both games as critics and players in general. Both games accepted more than well, estimates about 80 points that one, what else of the game.
But they didn’t ask with sales. Even in spite of the fact that a year for racing games was not very rich. The maximum that you can recall from what came out in 2010 is Hot Pursut, and even that came out in November. Bluera has any problems with licenses in general. Due to the expired license for cars, the game was removed from Steam. But you can still buy Split/Second (and it costs only 435 rubles).
According to Blur, we can say that before the removal of Activision sales, only 500k copies were able to sell. Which is extremely few.
For comparison, in only one third of the EA they sold about 5 million copies of NSF HP.
About Split/Second, unfortunately, I can’t say anything specific. But if you start from SteamSpy data and data for the first 12 days of sales, we can assume that they sold a little more copies than Blur (according to the gamspai, they sold the spliticekond about 100-200k times). We will assume that at the moment it is 600 with a small thousand copies.
Both games were planned to continue. In Split/Second, this was even stated at the end. (just announced in the blues)
But both sequels were canceled at the very early stages of development. And nothing is known about them, except that one concept of art second Split/Seconda remained
And, as far as we know, Blur was closed https://moneyslotsonline.co.uk/ because sales were simply not arranged by Activision, but Disney Interactive brought quite large losses for several years in a row (200+ million a year), so Black Rock Studio was closed only for “optimization”. And Disney herself was later closed (in 2016) .
More specifically, Activision began the process of closing Bizarre Creations in November 2010 and was fully disbanded in February 11.
Disney at the beginning of 11 abolished Pure and Split/Second sequels, and in June 11 completely disbanded Black Rock Studio
What a pity that we will not see the continuation of these beautiful games

I only remember from Pure that it was possible to assemble an ATV and a motorcycle myself, but the game itself is a couple of hours. But these two I still remember with warmth
This is not in this, but in the game Fuel were cars and motorcycles with ATVs. I also confused at the beginning
Personally, I still like Blur and Split Second, sometimes I play PS3.)
hah, I, too, I first wrote a post ass on the race, and then I realized that something was wrong
Yes. And really. I wrote this text not very carefully … we’ll fix it. Thank you!
Split/Second and Blur are not direct competitors.
In fact are. Both representatives of the arcade racing genre. Simply, very roughly speaking, in one you accumulated the scale, pressed the button and something happened to the opponent’s car, and in the other you drove along the icon, pressed the button and something happened to the opponent’s car. In these two games, the victory does not depend on your driving skill, but on whether you could undermine the opponent (a rocket, lightning or blowing up the building near the road), which overtook you or not. And such different details such as color fiber, music, damage, management, the presence/absence of licensed machines and even the graphics do not mean that the games are not in competition, and most of these details are not visible on prenatal materials.
This is not such a difference as, for example, for NFS Carbon with Crashday, which came out in one year, but have a different gameplay.
But they didn’t ask with sales. Even in spite of the fact that a year for racing games was not very rich.
You wrote at the beginning that Blur and Split/Second left in May 2010 with a difference of a week, and what else happened in May? On the day of SPLIT/Second release, the REDEM ALAN WAKE and REDDDEMPTARA from Rockstar, which in the first three weeks, was sold by 5 million circulation. T.e. Console players immediately fell off, and t.To. Red Dead Redemption does not pass in a week, then for Blur they are also in the minus. And only PC players remained, the capacity of which the capable part of which was scattered into two arcade races. Personally, I believe that the release date is to blame, that Split/Second has, which Blur has. To release two races with a difference of a week is already a little idiocy, and throw them under the rink of the game from Rockstar is generally suicide.
The maximum that you can recall from what came out in 2010 is Hot Pursut, and even that came out in November.
I can remember Gran Turismo 5.
There were no motorcycles in Pure. And the assembly was only one of the chips. The basis of gameplay was built on the performance of a variety of tricks.
This is so, by the way.
Gran Turismo positions itself as a halle ****** of the car system (I don’t know where it went, but I remember exactly what such words were). And here we are talking about arcades. Well, as I understand it.
Weren’t there any motorcycles? Okay, I remember too vaguely
Even in spite of the fact that a year for racing games was not very rich. The maximum that you can recall from what came out in 2010 is Hot Pursut, and even that came out in November.
It’s about racing games without dividing the backdrop.
In fact are. Both representatives of the arcade racing genre. Simply, very roughly speaking, in one you accumulated the scale, pressed the button and something happened to the opponent’s car, and in the other you drove along the icon, pressed the button and something happened to the opponent’s car
Not really. That’s why I say that Blur is closer to Mario cards. And Split/Second to a motorbide, especially to the last part.

Yes, I forgot about it. But I think it is worth considering that the audience has arcade races and plot adventures. Different people.
But the problem can be in advertising, or rather, it is absent, but I can’t say anything, because I was in Russia.
I can remember Gran Turismo 5.
This is car, and very serious. Fans of Auto Arcad will not climb. (and she also went out in November)
Pure was funny. And so I did not play in either. I don’t really like races. About the text-somewhere the letter is missed, somewhere the word. But soon the end of the working day, so I’m kind) plusik)
November. Blur has problems in general? With licenses.
So as not to be known as idle talk – here is one example)
Not really. That’s why I say that Blur is closer to Mario cards. And Split/Second to a motorbide, especially to the last part.
This is from the category of Titanfall 2 is not a competitor to Battlefield 1, and generally the audience of the games is different, so let’s release them with an interval per week.
If you came to the store in May 2010 and said that you want to buy “something arcade”, then no one would ask you: “And you are closer to Mario Cards or to a motorcycle?”, You would just have shown these two games.
But I think it is worth considering that the audience has arcade races and plot adventures. Different people.
This is if you go to extremes, but in fact, arcade races are not narrow -minded games. They are designed for a wide audience. Like GTA/RDR series games. And if you throw those who like GTA/RDR from the audience of arcade races, then a very small number of people will remain.
And again, you come to a store with 60 bucks in your hands, in order to buy a game for your PS3 or Xbox 360, and you see a game from the creators of Pure on the window, which is not Pure, a game from the creators of the Project Gotham Racing, which is not a Project Gothham Racing, and the game from the creators of GTA, which is only in the wild western West. I think that with a 95% probability Blur and Split/Second will not come out winners from this choice.
And here we are in the industry where there are only Asseto Corses, a prostect of kars and the Grand Tourisms … All the reckless races such as a bluer, a split-second, a motorstorm, a flutuet and an incean have sunk into the summer … Bruh.
